The former station here has been developed into a railway museum, replete with memorabilia that ranges from signals and tools to literature offering insights into Casino’s railroading past. In fact, the area is known as the ‘Beef Capital of Australia’, with events, restaurants and museums all celebrating this prized Richmond Valley culinary export. For spectacular views over the Northern Rivers countryside, drive west to the Mallanganee Lookout within the Richmond Range National Park. You don’t have to be in town in May to enjoy Casino’s star meat – many of the town’s restaurants, bistros and pubs spotlight the region’s finest beef. Northern Rivers Buslines operates rural services to Lismore (670) and Kyogle (675) each weekday, with one return service to Tenterfield available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Casino railway station is the terminus of the daily Casino XPT from Sydney and there is a daily service to and from Brisbane via the Brisbane XPT.
A bora ring more than twice the diameter of the average ring was found just north of the town. The Cambridge Plateau Picnic Area is at the southern end of the drive and has day visitor facilities. Casino Tourist Information Centre can provide a range of self guided tourist drive information sheets for the area, ranging from 2 hours to a full day. Entered in the New South Wales heritage register as a place of state significance in 1999, the building survives as an important Federation style weatherboard station, and is now the Trail head for the Richmond Valley section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. After sitting abandoned for several years, the stations main building was reimagined as the Old Casino Station Museum. The Jabiru Geneebinga Wetlands, on the corner of west St and Queensland Rd, is a sanctuary for native birds and wildlife, with picnic facilities and public toilets.
The town also offers excellent year round recreational activities and facilities, with golf, cricket, soccer, basketball and horse racing popular, and inland fishing available at nearby Toonumbar Dam. The adjacent Primex agricultural expo focuses on farm and agricultural machiney trade exhibits, workshops and presentations. Accommodation is limited mainly to hotels, motels and caravan parks, with a growing base of farmstays offering a wilderness retreat experience, in the rural settlements and larger land holdings.

Casino is a charming country town situated on the banks of the Richmond River. The Agricultural Show in October is another popular event with residents and visitors alike. Casino is the gateway to many of the region's wilderness areas and national parks of the northern tablelands including Border Ranges National Park and Mt Warning National Park. The Northern Rivers region is next to the border of Queensland, with easy access to the nightlife of Gold Coast and the stunning beaches of north east NSW. Leaving and returning to North Casino, it stops at the museum along the way, based in the old heritage Casino Train Station.
Casino receives TV channels from SBS and ABC and the regional affiliates of Seven, Nine and WIN Television’s 10 Northern NSW. Air travel is now served by Ballina Byron Gateway Airport which is located approximately 66 km east of Casino. The railway operates on Sundays between 10am and 4pm on a 2.5 km stretch of track, with a museum at the end. Casino railway station is situated on the main North Coast railway line between Sydney and Brisbane, north of Grafton. According to the 2021 census of Population, there were 9,968 people in Casino. The Richmond River runs through the town separating South Casino from the rest of the town.
Local bus services operate between Casino, Lismore and Kyogle, and Tenterfield on the Northern Tablelands. Intrastate flights are also available to Lismore Airport (approx. 32 klm), with all airports having airport car hire or other car rental services available nearby.
